What are the top AI companies in Austin?

I can't give you a ranked list of the top AI companies in Austin, because I don't have a sourced list and I won't guess at one. Here's what I do. I'm a fractional COO in Austin who also builds AI systems and automation myself, for clients across the United States. It starts with a 30-minute call.

A ranked list needs a measure behind it. Revenue, headcount, funding and customer results are all different measures, and I don't have verified numbers for any of them across Austin companies. A list from me would be an opinion dressed up as research, and you'd be making a hiring decision on it.

If you're looking for someone to build AI for your business, I'd skip the rankings and ask each candidate what they've shipped. Ask who does the work, and whether that person is on the call with you. Ask what happens when the build hits something hard, because it will. Those answers tell you more than a list will.

Two of them, Pippa (an AI animation platform) and ARIA (an AI operating system), are self-built capability demos, not client work. I don't subcontract the builds. The AI and automation work I take on includes AI agents, n8n workflows, local AI, and quoting and routing automation.

I came to AI from operations, and I think that matters when you're picking someone to build it. I spent 19 years running operations. That includes product ops and manufacturing at ChargePoint from startup through IPO, Mac operations at Apple, where I stood up two factories in China, and international co-manufacturing at Hershey, including greenfield factories in West Africa and a 120+ person transformation PMO.
